Bundesliga Wrap, Week 8: Borussia Mönchengladbach hand Borussia Dortmund their first defeat
Borussia Dortmund suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Bayer Leverkusen held on to draw Bayern Munich.


Hannover 1-1 Hertha Berlin
Ronny scored a spectacular free kick in the 81st minute to cancel out a first half goal from Christian Schulz to earn Hertha Berlin a well deserved point against Hannover 96.
Saturday, October 5
Schalke 4-1 Augsburg
Augsburg started brilliantly with an early Sascha Mölders goals, but everything quickly turned upside down after Ragnar Klavan’s red card in the 15th minute. Kevin Prince Boateng converted the resulting penalty, and Schalke were off and running to a big 4-1 victory. Adam Szalai scored two goals for Die Königsblauen before Max Meyer capped off the scoring for his first ever Bundesliga goal. The win is important for Jens Keller
Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-0 Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday afternoon. After a fairly even match, it was scoreless through 80 minutes. Then, disaster struck BVB. Mats Hummels was sent off for a poor challenge resulting in a penalty for Gladbach. Max Kruse scored the following penalty to give Gladbach the 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Marco Reus struck the bar for BVB, but the goal came on the other end. Raffael beat Roman Weidenfeller to give Gladbach the impressive 2-0 victory over BVB.
Stuttgart 1-1 Werder Bremen
Stuttgart’s continued their quality play under manager Thomas Schneider with a sixth minute goal from Martin Harnik. However, the advantage was short-lived as Werder began to put their dominance on the game. In the 37th minute, Nils Petersen knocked in a cross from Zlatko Junuzovic to equalize.
Wolfsburg 0-2 Eintracht Braunschweig
Eintracht Braunschweig picked up their first victory of the season with a big 2-0 win away to Wolfsburg. Karim Bellarabi scored the first goal for Braunschweig, and Domi Kumbela scored a goal in the 86th minute to secure the victory.
Mainz 2-2 Hoffenheim
Mainz received a late goal from Younes Malli to earn a point and snap a four match losing streak. Hoffenheim struck first through Kevin Volland, and Roberto Firmino made it 2-0 in the 22 minute. Mainz finally got on the scoreboard in the 82nd minute when Maxim Choupo-Moting beat Koen Casteels. Malli’s last minute equalizer is big for the club and relieves some pressure heading into the international break.
Bayer Leverkusen 1-1 Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich controlled --- well, dominated --- Bayer Leverkusen, but poor finishing forced them to settle for a 1-1 draw.
Sunday, September 22
Nürnberg 0-5 Hamburg
Beat. ‘Em. Down. Hamburg dropped a five spot on Nürnberg in their house on Sunday afternoon to give Bert van Marwijk his first victory as Hamburg manager. Rafael Van der Vaart opened the scoring with a fantastic goal. However, the star of the match was Pierre-Michel Lasogga due to his second half hat trick. The victory for Hamburg is huge moving forward in the season.
Freiburg 1-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
Freiburg scored both goals in Sunday’s match, but it was only good enough for a draw as one of the matches was an own goal from Christian Günter. They secured a point thanks to Nicolas Höfler’s 85th minute goal.
