Bundesliga, Week 11 preview: Borussia Dortmund host Stuttgart Friday, Bayern Munich visit Hoffenheim

The Bundesliga returns at the weekend with Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart playing in Friday’s match. On Saturday, Bayern Munich visit Hoffenheim.

Johannes Simon

It's always a good weekend when the Bundesliga has games on the field. This weekend, Borussia Dortmund are at home while Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen are on the road. The "Big 3" are separate themselves from the rest of the league, and if certain results go their way this weekend, the three could find themselves twelve points out of reach.

Friday, November 1

Borussia Dortmund vs. Stuttgart

BVB welcome Stuttgart to the Westfalenstadion before their return-leg Champions League match with Arsenal midweek. Emotions will be running high after last week’s Revierderby victory over Schalke, and they should find a fairly easy victory over Stuttgart in this one.

Time & Location: 20:30 Local / 2:30 PM Eastern; Signa Iduna Park, Dortmund

Prediction: Borussia Dortmund 3 - 0 Stuttgart

Saturday, November 2

Nürnberg vs. Freiburg

Nürnberg and Freiburg have been awful this season. I’d advise that you watch any of the other games kicking off at this time over this one. I’m taking Freiburg to pick up their first win in this one.

Time & Location: 15:30 Local / 9:30 AM Eastern; Grundig Stadion, Nürnberg

Prediction: Nürnberg 1 - 2 Freiburg

Hoffenheim vs. Bayern Munich

Bayern travel to Hoffenheim this weekend and should walk away from the Rhein-Neckar Arena with all three points to maintain their position at the top of the Bundesliga table. Pep Guardiola has the team playing some fantastic football, and the midweek break after last weekend's 3-2 victory over Hertha Berlin comes at a great time. Hoffenheim have been playing well in recent weeks. They've only lost one of their last four, and that was against Bayer Leverkusen and Stefan Kießling's "phantom tor". They'll battle hard, but Bayern are the better team.

Time & Location: 15:30 Local / 9:30 AM Eastern; Rhein-Neckar Arena, Sinsheim

Prediction: Hoffenheim 0 - 3 Bayern Munich

Hamburg vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach

Borussia Mönchengladbach are my pick now to slide into the fourth Champions League place in the Bundesliga. Lucien Favre has his side playing well this season, and they’re in fourth and nine points behind Bayer Leverkusen. The attacking front of Max Kruse, Raffael, and Juan Arango are playing brilliantly. For Hamburg, they are unbeaten since the hiring of Bert van Marwijk, but they have yet to face a side as good as Gladbach. It’s going to be a tough match for them.

Time & Location: 15:30 Local / 9:30 AM Eastern; Imtech Arena, Hamburg

Prediction: Hamburg 1 - 2 Borussia Mönchengladbach

Eintracht Braunschweig vs. Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen are going to win this game. Why? Leverkusen is good, and Braunschweig is not. It’s pretty simple.

Time & Location: 15:30 Local / 9:30 AM Eastern; Eintracht Stadion, Braunschweig

Prediction: Eintracht Braunschweig 0 - 2 Bayer Leverkusen

Hertha Berlin vs. Schalke

I’m going out on a limb here by picking Schalke, but for some strange reason, I think that they’ll pull this one out. Since Jos Luhukay took over Hertha Berlin last season, he’s only earned them promotion from the 2.Bundesliga and taken them into fourth place in the Bundesliga. This has the potential to be the match of the weekend.

Time & Location: 15:30 Local / 9:30 AM Eastern; Olympiastadion, Berlin

Prediction: Hertha Berlin 1 - 2 Schalke

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Wolfsburg

Dieter Hecking has Wolfsburg playing very well lately. While Frankfurt has been playing well in Europe, they’ve been struggling a bit in league play. Look for Die Wölfe to pull this one out.

Time & Location: 18:30 Local / 12:30 PM Eastern; Commerzbank-Arena, Frankfurt

Prediction: Eintracht Frankfurt 0 - 2 Wolfsburg

Sunday, November 3

Augsburg vs. Mainz

Mainz finally got back to winning in the league last week, but it was only against Eintracht Braunschweig. I like the talent at Thomas Tuchel’s disposal, and the team should start to move back up the table now.

Time & Location: 15:30 Local / 9:30 AM Eastern; SGL arena, Augsburg

Prediction: Augsburg 1 - 2 Mainz

Werder Bremen vs. Hannover

Both Werder and Hannover suffered big losses last weekend, but Hannover will be without two players due to red cards. Hannover aren't as good without Mame Biram Diouf up top. Hannover struggle on the road, so it'll be interesting to see if Mirko Slomka can get his side to put up a strong fight on the road.

Time & Location: 17:30 Local / 11:30 AM Eastern; Weserstadion, Bremen

Prediction: Werder Bremen 2 - 0 Hannover
