Borussia Dortmund earned what turned out to be a very straightforward win against VfB Stuttgart in Friday’s Bundesliga game. Despite going 1-0 down very early on to a neat header by Karim Haggui, the hosts came roaring right back, scoring twice in quick succession and eventually emerging with a 6-1 victory.

It was something of a nightmare for Stuttgart, who had gotten off to an ideal start with Haggui’s goal. In the 13th minute, the centre back met an Alexandru Maxim corner with a fine stooping header, nodding off the ground and into the top corner despite Sokratis Papastathopoulos’ presence on the line.
Conceding so early failed to take any wind out of BVB’s collective sails. They responded almost immediately with a mirror image of Stuttgart’s strike, with Nuri Sahin taking Maxim’s place and Papastathopoulos taking Haggui’s. And within three minutes of the equaliser, the hosts had struck again. Marco Reus made up for spurning a golden opportunity earlier on by weaving his way through the defence and planting an effort past Sven Ulreich and into the far corner.
Dortmund kept piling on the pressure, but didn’t score again until the second half, when a quickfire double from Robert Lewandowski put the game to bed. The big striker did very well to adjust his feet and finish past Ulreich when played in by Reus, and a minute later he did the same thing after Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s through ball.
Lewandowski completed his hattrick win the 73rd minute after Stuttgart gave away possession in their own half. Jacub Blaszczykowski’s shot hit the woodwork after an intervention from Ulreich, and Lewandowski was on hand to tap the rebound into an empty net.
Having notched three goals, Lewandowski turned provider. Roman Weidenfeller sparked a BVB counterattack, picking out the striker on the left with a quick throw, and Lewandowski’s cross was met by substitute Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who produced an stupidly cool lob over Ulreich to make it 6-1.
And that would be that. It’s another resounding win for Dortmund -- what will Bayern Munich have to say in response?
