Eugenio Corini only left the Chievo Verona coaching post at the end of last season, in a move which looked suspiciously like he was angling for the vacant position at Palermo. Unfortunately the rosanero president Maurizio Zamparini hired Gennaro Gattuso instead, leaving Corini without a job and Chievo without a coach.

With Chievo looking in some trouble near the bottom of the Serie A table, Eugenio Corini has returned to replace Giuseppe Sannino as coach.

However, just a few months on, Corini is back at the Bentegodi for at least a couple of years. Despite drawing with AC Milan in their last game, the Flying Donkeys are having a bad start to the season, and are currently sitting rock bottom of the table with just one win from their opening 12 matches. Longing for last season's mid-table mediocrity, coach Giuseppe Sannino has been binned and Corini recalled.
He has an unenviable task, given that Chievo have lost a fair few first team regulars over the past year. Goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino and defenders Marco Andreolli and Francesco Acerbi are just three of their most notable departures, leaving them well and truly embroiled in a messy relegation scrap.
