Victor Valdés could be facing six weeks or more out of action if early reports about a torn calf muscle are true. The Barcelona goalkeeper was injured in Spain’s loss against South Africa on Tuesday, and while test are still ongoing, everything points to a prolonged absence for Valdés.

According to reports out of Spain’s national team camp, initial test on the goalkeeper showed damage to his calf muscle. Assuming the test are confirmed by Barcelona doctors, Valdés could be out until January.

The Barcelona goalkeeper had entered Spain's match against South Africa at halftime and left the pitch in the 75th minute with the help of a trainer and doctor. Álvaro Arbeloa temporarily took over over goal as Spain were out of substitutions, but after a heated argument on the sidelines between the benches and the officials, Spain was allowed to send on Pepe Reina for the final eight minutes.

Valdés appears on his way to joining teammates Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas, Xavi Hernandez, Cristian Tello, Javier Mascherano, Gerard Piqué, Dani Alves and Jordi Alba on Barcelona’s ever-expanding injury list.
