José Enrique likely to undergo knee surgery

Liverpool defender José Enrique is facing surgery on a long-term knee injury.

Liverpool defender José Enrique is likely to require surgery on a knee injury, manager Brendan Rodgers told Talksport. The Spaniard only returned to action in Liverpool's 4-0 win over Fulham earlier in November after a month on the sidelines, but he is now facing the prospect of a further layoff, as Rodgers explained:

“José Enrique has been struggling for a little while with an injury. He will probably need an operation. It’s a blow for us because he’s a very talented player.”

Enrique has been a regular in the Liverpool team since joining from Newcastle a couple of seasons ago, making over 70 league appearances. Fortunately Liverpool have cover down their left side, with French defender Aly Cissokho -- who only joined on loan from Valencia in the summer -- likely to fill in while the Spaniard is unavailable.
