Fábio Coentrão out with a thigh injury, no timeline set for his return

Real Madrid announced that fullback Fábio Coentrão has an injury to his right thigh but they won’t say how long they expect him to be out.

Scott Rovak-USA TODAY Sports

Real Madrid announced on Thursday that defender Fábio Coentrão has been diagnosed with a muscle injury on the back of his right thigh. What they didn't say was how serious the injury is or how much time they expect him to miss.

More from our team sites

Coentrão left Portugal’s win over Sweden on Tuesday in the 52nd minute and there had been questions about the status of the defender, but until Thursday his club had remained quiet.

In an extremely brief statement on the club’s website, the only information that was provided was an acknowledgement of the injury and the location of it. Nothing else:

Following tests carried out today on Fábio Coentrão in the Sanitas-La Moraleja Hospital he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury on the back of his right thigh. More information will become clear depending on his progress.

So it appears that Coentrão will definitely miss Madrid’s match this weekend against Almeria but the club didn’t even confirm that yet. It appears we’ll have to wait and see what further test show.
