Leighton Baines facing a month on the sidelines

Everton’s Leighton Baines fractured a toe in the Merseyside derby, meaning he could be out for the next month.

Everton may have picked up an impressive point in the Merseyside derby, but they definitely paid the price. Their full-back Leighton Baines could be out for a month after fracturing a toe in Saturday's 3-3 draw with Liverpool, ruling him out of the tough matches against Manchester United and Arsenal.

It's not often that the Toffees have to do without Baines -- who has missed only six Premier League games over the past four seasons -- though he came off worse in a tangle with Jordan Henderson, and was replaced by winger Gerard Deulofeu early in the second half.

The downside to Baines' consistency is Everton don't really have a like-for-like replacement they can slide into the starting 11. Utility man Gareth Barry slotted into the position on Saturday, with the only other alternative seemingly being to shift a centre-back out wide -- and that's far from ideal. Either way, Everton will definitely miss Baines' attacking thrust down the left for the next few weeks.
