Martin Jol has been sacked by Fulham following Saturday's embarrassing 3-0 beating at the hands of West Ham United. The Cottagers currently sit in 18th place with a minus-13 goal differential, and they have just one win at home this season.

With Fulham in the drop zone and showing no signs of improvement, the club has parted ways with manager Martin Jol.

New owner Shahid Khan, who took over the club from longtime owner Mohamed Al-Fayed this summer, has given Jol plenty of time to work his way out of a bad run of form. After five straight Premier League losses, Khan decided enough was enough, though he was certainly gracious in his comments on the club website.
“There is no question Martin is an excellent football man and he has my utmost respect for the commitment he made to our Club. However, our poor form and results this season are undeniable, and Fulham supporters deserve better. With more than half the season still ahead, an immediate change was necessary.”
Jol’s comments were those of a man who had known for a while that he was managing on borrowed time and that he deserved to be relieved of his coaching duties.
“I am disappointed in this season but know there are better days ahead for Fulham and its supporters. I will always treasure my experience here and want to thank Mr. Khan and everyone at Fulham for the opportunity.”
Fulham will be managed by Rene Meulensteen on an interim basis. He was hired as head coach in November and has been billed as a potential future manager in the Premier League for quite some time. He was a coach at Manchester United from 2001 to 2006 before leaving to manage Brondby in Denmark. After leaving, he returned to Manchester United, where he remained until Alex Ferguson's retirement. He had a short spell as an assistant and manager at Russia's biggest dumpster fire, Anzhi Makhachkala, before taking a position at Fulham.
