Andre Villas-Boas has been sacked as manager of Tottenham Hotspur after a year and a half in charge following the club’s 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool.

The club revealed on their official website: “The Club can announce that agreement has been reached with Head Coach, Andre Villas-Boas, for the termination of his services”
The decision was by mutual consent and in the interests of all parties.”
Villas-Boas' side only just fell short of Champions League qualification last season, but this year, after rebuilding the squad, have suffered several heavy defeats, the last of which was a 5-0 home loss to Liverpool. With the side in poor form and struggling for goals, the Tottenham hierarchy have made the decision to remove Villas-Boas from his post with immediate effect.
After selling Gareth Bale in the summer for a world record fee, Spurs reinvested the money heavily in reinforcing their squad, but most of the new players have failed to impress, with Spurs sitting seventh in the table, eight points from first-placed Arsenal and five points from fourth-placed Manchester City.
There is no indication as yet as to who is likely to replace Villas-Boas, although Michael Laudrup is an early favourite with bookmakers.
