Andres Iniesta has brought an end to his contract saga by agreeing to sign a new deal which will keep him at Barcelona until 2018.

The midfielder had been linked with several other clubs in Europe as his contract began to run down, notably Manchester United, but he has now chosen to stay at his current club. His old deal was due to expire in 2015, and the new contract will run for five years, potentially keeping him at the Catalan club for life.

Iniesta has been an integral component of both Barcelona and the Spanish national team and cemented his place as one of the finest players in the world. His goal in the World Cup final helped Spain seal a historic triumph in South Africa in 2010.

Iniesta came through the club’s famed youth academy and has made 479 appearances for the club over the most successful period in its history.
