FIFA's organizing committee will meet on Tuesday to set the pots for Friday's World Cup draw, but there aren't too many different ways that the pots can be organized. The eight seeded teams are already set and will make up one pot, while the other three pots will be organized according to geography.
World Cup 2014 draw: Pots to be finalized Tuesday
The pots for the World Cup draw haven’t been set yet, but they’re not too difficult to project ahead of Tuesday’s organizing committee meeting.
Uruguay was able to maintain a seed despite their fifth place finish in CONMEBOL qualifying, thanks to their win in the 2011 Copa America. They're joined by Belgium and Switzerland, who have made a huge surge in the FIFA rankings over the last two years despite failing to qualify for UEFA Euro 2012. The hosts, Brazil, help to fill out the top pot along with Spain and Germany, two traditional powers, as well as Colombia and Argentina, CONMEBOL's top two teams from qualifying.
The United States and their fellow CONCACAF qualifiers will likely end up in a pot with the four teams that qualified from AFC, the Asian confederation. There are two unseeded South American teams, Chile and Ecuador, who will probably end up in a pot with the five qualifiers from CAF, the African confederation. There are nine unseeded teams from Europe, so one will spill over into that pot. That's likely to be France, who have the lowest FIFA ranking of the European teams that qualified for the World Cup.
