Barcelona enters the winter break on top of the league thanks to a 5-2 comeback victory over Getafe.

Getafe jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over the league leaders Barcelona but they couldn't hold on. A hat trick by Pedro Rodriguez led an avalanche of goals for the Blaugrana who won going away and in the process reclaimed the top spot in La Liga going into the winter break.

Barcelona got an early chance to take the lead in the second minute when a free kick into the center of the area fell to Gerard Piqué. However, his one-on-one chance was blocked wonderfully by Miguel Moya. Despite the defender’s good feet, Getafe were probably happy it wasn’t a more dangerous attacker with the opportunity.

Getafe pressure well though after the early chance and were rewarded in the 10th minute. Lafita's excellent back heel pass to Sergio Escudero caught Dani Alves a bit flatfooted, and the fullback raced behind him and beat José Manuel Pinto with a low shot inside the far post.

Things got worse for Barcelona in the 15th minute when they were exposed on a corner kick, something has troubled them all season. Pedro León curled a cross into the Barca area where Lisandro López was inexplicably left free. The Getafe defender cooly went up and headed the ball right past a frozen Pinto to double the lead to 2-0.

Barca struck back ten minutes before halftime when Cesc Fàbregas sent a through ball to Pedro, who raced past the Getafe defense into open space. Pedro’s chip from the edge of the area went off Moya’s extended hand and into the net to make it 2-1.

In the 41st minute Pedro was back, getting completely free on the left wing before working his way into the Getafe area. A quick cutback inside created space and the striker fired a rising shot past Moya to even the match at 2-2.

Less than two minutes later, Pedro completed the first-half hat trick. A Jordi Alba pass took an unfortunate deflection off the heel of a Getafe defender and skipped right to Pedro who blasted a shot past Moya to give Barca a 3-2 lead.

Barca extended the lead to 4-2 in the 68th minute when Alexis Sánchez lifted a short cross towards the far post where Fábregas volleyed the ball past Moya, who couldn't get across quick enough.

Four minutes later, Pedro was hammered by Borja in the box as he turned to receive the ball. The referee awarded Barca a penalty that was finished by Fábregas, making it 5-2.
