Fabio Borini sent to the hospital after collapsing in the dressing room

After looking fine in the first half against Cardiff, Sunderland forward Fabio Borini became ill in the dressing room and had to head to a hospital.

Sunderland and Liverpool are dealing with a scary situation on Saturday, as forward Fabio Borini needed to leave a game to go to the hospital. Borini, who is on loan at Sunderland from Liverpool, reportedly became ill at halftime of Saturday's match between the Black Cats and Cardiff City, after which he left the stadium in an ambulance.

The 22-year-old forward was an active participant in the first half, firing three shots (two on goal) but failing to tally any goals. The Bluebirds led Sunderland 1-0 at the break.

Sky Sports reported the news during the second half of the match.

Borini did not appear to be suffering from any kind of ailment while he was on the pitch. When the teams walked to the dressing room, there was no indication that there was anything wrong with Borini or that he would be substituted.

The severity of Borini’s illness is not yet confirmed, but given that he was immediately taken to a hospital, it’s obviously being treated as potentially serious. Thankfully, The Guardian reports that he is currently conscious.
