Stoke City vs. Cardiff City: Final score 0-0, you’re bored

Snooooore.

Steve Bardens

Neither Cardiff or Stoke is a favorite to get relegated this season, but they are both very much in the relegation race. In a situation like that, there’s no such thing as a bad point, so it should come as no surprise that neither side was terribly ambitious going forward. While their tactics were understandable, there’s no getting around the dull nature of the match, and their 0-0 draw was perhaps the most dull in the Premier League this season.

The closest things to chances came at the end of the first half, where there were close calls at both ends. Jordan Mutch nearly put Cardiff in front with a header off a corner in the 40th minute, but Asmir Begovic made a very good save at his near post. Five minutes later, Geoff Cameron thought he'd put Stoke ahead off a flick by Peter Crouch, but the assistant put his flag up for offsides.

While the second half featured plenty of shots, very few of them came from dangerous places and even fewer hit the target. The second half only featured two saves, both coming from Begovic, the second of which came in stoppage time on Declan John. In the end, both teams will be happy with their point and accept that the goalless draw was a fair result.

Stoke: Begovic, Pieters (Muniesa 45’), Wilson, Shawcross, Cameron, Whelan (Ireland 65’), Nzonzi, Adam, Arnautovic, Crouch, Assaidi

Goals: None

Cardiff: Marshall, John, Caulker, Turner, Theopile, Medel, Whittingham, Mutch, Cowie, Campbell (Odemwingie 77’), Whittingham

Goals: None
