Zenit weren’t supposed to be here (with here being the Europa League) after spending a lot of money in the summer to bolster their squad with the idea of advancing in the Champions League. Instead, they severely underachieved and much like Liverpool, will have to decide how much this competition means to them.
Both sides are in good shapes in terms of not having many players out, but Liverpool will at least have the advantage of being match-fit while Zenit are coming off the winter break in Russia.
