When a Totti howitzer to win a cup tie against Juventus is number five, you know it’s been a good week. It’s a great finish, giving Roma an unlikely win with a classic Francesco Totti effort. But there were others....
4. Rafael van der Vaart - HAMBURG vs. Borussia Monchengladbach
A classic run and dipping shot from the former Tottenham man, but hey, at least Spurs have Gylfi Sigurdsson now. Yes, I know he couldn’t complete 90 minutes, but we miss him in the Premier League. We just don’t get outside-of-the-boot swerve like that as much as we’d like to.
3. Hulk - ZENIT vs. Liverpool
An absolute stonker of a goal, one of the two which Liverpool conceded whilst giving “almost the perfect European away performance.” This, we suppose, accounts for the ‘almost’ part.
2. Samuel Umtiti - Tottenham Hotspur vs. LYON
A goal so good the whole video apparently had to be run through Instagram. You simply cannot hit it any better than that.
1 Fikru Tefera - FREE STATE STARS vs. Kaizer Chiefs
We’re not being hipsters, we hadn’t heard of him either. Fikru Tefera gets the number one spot purely because this was the best goal scored anywhere in the world this week. This is magical.
