Tottenham Hotspur will welcome back Emmanuel Adebayor in the nick of time to face Newcastle United at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Tottenham Hotspur vs. Newcastle United: Preview and TV schedule
Emmanuel Adebayor returns for Tottenham Hotspur as they face a difficult home encounter against Newcastle United.
The Togolese forward has not displayed his best form this season, but his absence at the Africa Cup of Nations was problematic for Spurs, who are understaffed up front and failed to bring in a striker during the January transfer window. Although there are question marks over Adebayor’s fitness, Andre-Villas Boas has stated he will be ready for the game, and it presents a fine opportunity for him to establish himself in the Tottenham side.
Newcastle, meanwhile, will look to continue their rejuvenated form, boosted by the return of the likes of Yohan Cabaye and Steven Taylor, as well as the additions of Moussa Sissoko and Yoann Gouffran. All are likely to start against Tottenham, and will give Spurs a huge test as they continue in their campaign for Champions League qualification.
Tottenham Hotspur injuries and suspensions
Out: Sandro (ACL), Jermain Defoe (ankle ligament), Younes Kaboul (knee).
Newcastle United injuries and suspensions
Out: Dan Gosling (ankle), Ryan Taylor (knee). In doubt: Hatem Ben Arfa (hamstring.)
Tottenham will be without Jermain Defoe for three weeks, but will welcome back Emmanuel Adebayor from the Africa Cup of Nations in the nick of time, with Villas-Boas insisting that the Togolese forward will be ready to start. Spurs otherwise have no new injury problems.
Hatem Ben Arfa continues his absence for Newcastle, with no new news on his injury, although he was scheduled to return before now and an appearance on the substitutes’ bench cannot be ruled out. The Magpies are otherwise getting over their injury crisis with most of their other players now returned.
