Jack Wilshere injured in Sunderland-Arsenal clash

Jack Wilshere was brought off injured for Arsenal in their game at the Stadium of Light, to make the Gunners’ fitness problems worse.

Arsenal have been given some further bad news as Jack Wilshere was withdrawn through injury during their game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The England midfielder was replaced by Abou Diaby midway through the second half, after he helped set up Arsenal's goal in the first. Wilshere appeared to have some problem with his right leg, although it is not clear exactly what the injury is at the moment.

The injury is the second of the day after the in-doubt Laurent Koscielny passed a fitness test but was brought off with a calf problem during the warm-up. Arsenal will also be without the man who replaced him, Carl Jenkinson, after the youngster received a red card during the game, and are already missing Thomas Vermaelen.

Wilshere was out for 14 months for Arsenal after his most recent injury, and while this one does not look anywhere near as severe, it will be a worry for the Gunners.
