Barcelona vs. AC Milan, 2013 UEFA Champions League: Xavi passes fitness test
Xavi passed a fitness test this morning and will be available for selection as Barcelona must overcome a 2-0 deficit if they hope to advance to the quarterfinals.
The midfielder has been out the last couple games with a hamstring injury, but had been training with the first team since Friday. Barcelona assistant coach Jordi Roura declined to confirm Xavi’s availability yesterday, likely in an attempt to keep Milan on their toes.
Xavi played in the first leg against AC Milan, basically under the exact same circumstances as he returned from a hamstring injury to play in that match as well. Xavi was largely ineffective but to be fair, so was the entire roster.
There’s no doubt Barcelona are better with Xavi in the lineup as opposed to out of it so one expects that his availability will lead to Xavi being in the starting lineup. For the next four hours or so feel free to wildly speculate about this question. Once the lineups are announced, we’ll know for sure.
