LA and Santos Laguna each won at home to join Seattle and Monterrey in the Champions League semifinals.

    Galaxy heading to semifinals

    LA and Herediano played to a 0-0 draw in the first leg, which was a job well done for the Galaxy. But a year ago, the Galaxy got an away draw in the first leg of the quarterfinals, too, only to lose at home in the second leg and be eliminated. This time around, they made sure that wouldn’t happen again.

    With a three-goal lead and a little bit of breathing room, the Galaxy let up and Herediano took advantage. Elias Aguilar scored five minutes from time to give the visitors some hope, but it wasn’t nearly enough.

    Monterrey cruise into semifinals

    Monterrey are though to the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals yet again after a 1-1 draw with Xelaju in the second leg of their quarterfinal tie. The Rayados won 3-1 away in the first leg, all but guaranteeing advancement before the second leg, and their draw earned them a 4-2 aggregate win.

    Monterrey are the the two-time defending tournament champions and were heavy favorites in the quarterfinals against a Xelaju team that were the Champions League Cinderella just for making it out of the group stage. The Rayados will play either the LA Galaxy or Herediano in the semifinals.
