The first 35 minutes of the match was fairly tight and defensive with neither team giving the other much space to work with. Malaga were definitely the more aggressive side, challenging the Proto offside trap on several occasions and being wrongly ruled offside twice by the assistant referee.

Malaga’s best chance of the match up to that point came in 36th minute on a botched clearance by Porto. Antunes brought down the ball 25-yards from goal with a nice touch and whizzed a shot back across the box that forced an excellent save from Helton.

    Malaga vs. Porto: Lineups

    Claudio Villa

Malaga need a victory at home to advance and Manuel Pellegrini has named nearly the same starting eleven from the first leg. The only change is in the defense where Jesús Gámez takes over at fullback for Sergio Sanchez

Vítor Pereira has made a couple changes from his first leg lineup. Marat Izmailov is out of the lineup and will likely be replaced at the top of the formation by Jackson Martinez or Silvestre Varela. Steven Defour takes Izmailov’s place in the lineup but will play deeper in the midfield.

Malaga underdogs at home against Porto

At least one of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League games will matter. Porto head to Spain hoping to defend their lead against CF Malaga, who’ve never reached the quarterfinals of the European Cup in their 108-year history. And it’s by no means a guarantee that the visitors will go through -- although Porto dominated the first leg, they only managed to win 1-0 through a Joao Moutinho goal, and that means that the Anchovies have a chance of getting through.

They’ll need better out of their creative players -- Isco was a non-factor at the Dragao, and Malaga generally struggles to score unless he’s on the ball frequently. They have plenty of players who can finish, but no superstar strikers who are likely to create their own shot. On the other side of the ball, Porto will enter the game confident that they can progress. If they score just once, Malaga will need to score three goals.
