Stoke City vs. West Ham: Final score 0-1, Hammers win at the Britannia

An ugly match went the Hammers’ way thanks to a Jack Collison goal just before halftime.

West Ham were absolutely woeful in the early going at the Britannia, but it didn't matter because Stoke were just as bad. The Potters struggled to do much all match, which was perfectly fine for the Hammers, who eventually settled in a bit and picked up a 1-0 win thanks to Jack Collison's goal just before halftime.

The match started disastrously for the Hammers, who had to make two substitutions within 11 minutes. Matt Taylor was kicked in the face by Peter Crouch and moments later Joe Cole went down injured, but that only seemed to spark West Ham after a listless start.

West Ham picked up steam and began to create a few chances, one of which they cashed in before the break. Vaz Te slipped in a lovely pass for Collison, who turned quickly and shot low to beat Asmir Begovic.

The second half didn't have much to speak of beyond penalty shouts. Stoke wanted a penalty after Joey O'Brien Cameron and Cameron Jerome came together, only for Crouch waved around hoping to get a penalty of his own on the other end.

Stoke only looked dangerous once and it came in the waning minutes when Charlie Adam hit a vicious volley that beat Jussi Jaaskelainen, but hit the bar.

Of course, the match ended with what else but a penalty shout, this time with Stoke hoping Guy Demel would be found guilty. Like every other appeal, the referee did not give it and West Ham walked away with their first win away from Upton Park since November.
