Inter Milan vs. AS Roma, 2013 Coppa Italia: Preview

Inter have a 2-1 deficit to overcome if they are to reach the final of the Coppa Italia.

Michael Regan

Goals from Alessandro Florenzi and Mattia Destro gave AS Roma a two goal advantage at the Olimpico back in January, before Rodrigo Palacio threw Inter Milan a lifeline by pulling one back shortly before half-time. That was how the game ended, leaving it nicely poised ahead of the return leg at the San Siro.

With neither of these sides enjoying great success in Serie A, the Coppa Italia offers a chance for silverware that they won't want to pass up -- not least with both Andrea Stramaccioni and Aurelio Andreazzoli not completely safe in their respective coaching positions. After 32 games only one point separates these sides in the league, so it's a difficult one to predict.

Inter still have a humongous injury list, with Yuto Nagatomo and Walter Gargano the latest to be added to the long line of players expected to miss the rest of the season. Antonio Cassano, Diego Milito and Rodrigo Palacio are selected others, while Fredy Guarín and Álvaro Pereira are suspended.

As for Roma, they have a couple of doubts in midfield, with Daniele De Rossi and Miralem Pjanić both potential absentees. They have ex-Inter centre back Nicolás Burdisso unavailable through suspension.
