Luis Suarez has had plenty of incidents since joining Liverpool that has made him a controversial character, to say the least. Today's apparent bite on the arm of Branislav Ivanovic could elevate his reputation to a whole new and far from positive level.
Luis Suarez appears to bite Branislav Ivanovic’s arm
Luis Suarez appeared to bite Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in the second half of Liverpool’s match against the Blues today. This is the second time in Suarez’s career he has bit an opponent on the field of play.

The incident occurred late in the second half after Suarez and Ivanovic tangled up in front of the Chelsea goal as Suarez attempted to make a play on a cross. Suarez grabbed hold of Ivanovic’s arm and at the very least attempted to bite into the defender’s bicep. Based on the video and the shots we’ve been able to see, it looks like he succeeded.
To add another layer to the story, Suarez scored the equalizing goal for Liverpool in stoppage time as they drew 2-2 with Chelsea.
Here are a couple screen shots of the incident for you to review for yourself:
The FA will no doubt be having a look at the incident and could suspend Suarez for several games as even attempting to bite an opponent qualifies as violent conduct...or at least it should.
This isn't the first time Suarez has bitten an opponent on the pitch. It happened back in 2010 when Suarez played for Ajax and he took decided to sink his teeth into PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal's shoulder. Suarez received a seven match ban for that incident.
Don’t believe me? There’s video:
Now we will have to wait and see how the FA reacts.
