Real Sociedad and Deportivo La Coruña were both held to disappointing draws but the results aren't the end of the world for either side. Atletico Madrid kept within three points of rivals Real Madrid for second place with a win over Sevilla. Here's a recap of Sunday's action in Spain.

Getafe 0-2 Espanyol

Getafe took a step in the wrong direction, further dimming their Europa League chances with a home less against Espanyol. Verdú put Espanyol in front in the 37th minute when Christian Stuani’s chipped cross was headed down into the striker’s path by Sergio Garcia. Verdú easily guided the ball past Jordi Codina making it 1-0.

Getafe then had two players sent off in the second half, Borja Fernandez just after the halftime break and central defender Federico Fernandez was sent off in the 72nd minute. Less than a minute later Espanyol added a second goal from Stuani and clinched the three points.

Deportivo La Coruña 1-1 Athletic Bilbao

Fernando Llorente's first goal since September helped Athletic earn a draw against relegation battlers Depor. Bruno Gama put the home side ahead in the 38th minute but Llorente, who is off to Juventus in the summer, equalized for Athletic just six minutes later.

Depor were unable to take advantage of Ander Iturraspe's red card with nine minutes left to play and were forced to settle for a point. Fortunately for the home side, they cannot drop back into the bottom three though a win tomorrow for Zaragoza would move them down to 17th.

Osasuna 0-0 Real Sociedad

Osasuna broke their two match losing streak and managed to frustrate fourth placed Real Sociedad in a dull scoreless draw. Neither team were particulary dangerous though Real had the better of the play for most of the came. Their best chance came midway through the first half when Imanol Agirretxe headed the ball off the post on a corner.

Real remain in fourth place but their lead is now just two points over Valencia. Osasuna moved four points clear of the drop zone with the point.

Sevilla 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Radamel Falco's short range finish in the 76th minute was the difference as Atletico Madrid remained within three points of Real Madrid for second place in La Liga. The loss ends Sevilla's seven match home winning streak.

Atletico’s goal came thanks to a great run down the left from Adrian who found Raul Garcia on the opposite wing. Garcia’s volley shot was directed past Beto by Falcao. Sevilla remains in the middle of the table despite the loss but any hopes they might have had of catching up to challenge for a Europa League spot look finished.
