MLS Scores: Galaxy, Timbers make statements on the road

Home teams didn’t look especially strong last weekend as just as many away teams picked up wins as their home-standing brethren.

Road wins don’t come easy, but someone forgot to tell the Galaxy that. They showed no issues winning away, even with a weakened squad as they made their case to be considered MLS’s best and while the Timbers made things tough on themselves by falling behind early, they too picked up an impressive away win.

After a weekend in which just three of nine home teams won, maybe the road isn’t as tough as it looks?

Toronto FC 1-2 New York Red Bulls

Tim Cahill is alive? Neat.

Montreal Impact 2-0 Chicago Fire

The Fire are bad. They’re even worse with 10 men.

Vancouver Whitecaps 2-2 FC Dallas

Someone must have stapled Joe Cannon to his line because he did everything in his power not to come off of it on Saturday and it cost the Caps to the tune of two goals. Luckily for him, Kekuta Manneh came off the bench to save him, scoring a goal then setting up another to stun Dallas. Not bad for an 18-year-old rookie, and for the Hoops, maybe nothing shows just how far they have come than an away draw being a disappointment.

Columbus Crew 3-0 D.C. United

Scoreboard fires, bad. D.C. United, very bad. Federico Higuain, good.

New England Revolution 2-0 Philadelphia Union

If you were looking for beautiful soccer, I hope you didn't look to Foxborough for it because nobody could have possibly enjoyed what they saw on Saturday. That is unless you are Lee Nguyen, who set up the opening goal before scoring the second to hand the Union their first loss in fourth matches.

Sporting KC 2-3 Portland Timbers

Are we calling the league Major League Porter yet?

Real Salt Lake 0-2 LA Galaxy

Bruce Arena didn't even pretend to be giving this match his best shot, leaving Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane at home, along with a couple more regulars, but it didn't matter. The Galaxy showed off their depth, getting a goal from rookie debutant Charlie Rugg, a nice match from Hector Jimenez and a host of other lesser used players to cruise past RSL.

Chivas USA 2-2 San Jose Earthquakes

The Earthquakes dominated in the early going as they set out to get their first win since Match 23. Chris Wondolowski scored in the 40th minute and Chivas did not put a single shot on goal in the first half as the Quakes threatened to turn it into a laugher, but the Goats responded after the break. Mario de Luna and Tristan Bowen scored within six minutes of the restart as the home side grabbed the upper hand, but Cordell Cato found a 76th minute equalizer to earn San Jose a point. The Quakes can't be too happy, though, because they have now gone five matches without a win, while Chivas will be happy to snap a two-match losing streak.

Houston Dynamo 1-1 Colorado Rapids

Colorado will be disappointed to have conceded late, ruining their chance at three points, but a result at Houston is nothing to sneeze at. Drew Moor's goal put the Rapids in front, but Giles Barnes' tally ensured the Dynamo's 36-match home unbeaten streak would survive.
