Borussia Dortmund vs. Malaga, 2013 Champions League: Preview and TV Schedule

It’s all to play for in Germany as Dortmund and Malaga face off for a semi-final place after their goalless first leg.

David Ramos

With tonight’s other semi-final all but over, all eyes will be on the two dark horses of Borussia Dortmund and Malaga as they remain deadlocked after their goalless first leg in Spain.

With Malaga unable to take a lead at home and Dortmund failing to find an away goal, the tie is finely-balanced and the prospects for an entertaining game at Signal Iduna Park are good. The loss of two key defensive players to Malaga should encourage the visitors to go for it, particularly with the prospect of a victory on away goals.

Dortmund are probably narrow favourites, and the possibility of meeting their rivals Bayern Munich in the semi-finals is a very real one after the Bavarians secured a good first leg result against Juventus. With Real Madrid and Barcelona the two other likely opponents, whoever progresses in this tie will have to deal with the competition’s elites thereafter, but it could be an opportunity that neither club will get for a long time again.

Borussia Dortmund injuries and suspensions

In doubt: Jakub Blaszczykowski

Malaga injuries and suspensions

Out: Manuel Iturra (suspended), Weligton (suspended)

Mats Hummels should return to the starting lineup for the hosts, so Dortmund are only worrying over the fitness of Jakub Blaszczykowski, but the Pole is expected to start.

Malaga, meanwhile, will have to make do without the suspended Weligton and Manuel Iturra, throwing their defensive plans into question.
