Monterrey wins third straight CCL title

USA TODAY SportsIn case there was any doubt, Monterrey owns the CONCACAF Champions League. Their third straight title -- which they clinched with a 4-2 win over Santos Laguna on Wednesday -- was easily their most impressive.
Los Rayados went down 2-0 at home, only to storm back with four goals that all came in the final 30 minutes of the match. That made them the first team since Cruz Azul did it from 1969-71 to win three straight CONCACAF titles.

Kiyoshi OtaMonterrey looked like underdogs heading into the CONCACAF Champions League final. Sure, they had won the previous two tournaments, but Santos Laguna had the better looking team and were well ahead of the Rayados in Liga MX. Put those last two Champions Leagues aside and there was a clear favorite.
But you can’t just ignore those two Monterrey trophies, can you?
