Walter Mazzarri confirmed as new Inter Milan coach

Inter Milan have confirmed that former Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri will take charge at the San Siro, replacing Andrea Stramaccioni.

Walter Mazzarri announced last week he was leaving Napoli after four years, and today it was revealed he'll be replacing Andrea Stramaccioni at Inter Milan. A statement on the club's website stated that Mazzarri's contract is initially for two years, and thanked the outgoing Stramaccioni for his "great commitment and professionalism demonstrated in a particularly difficult year."

With an already-weak squad ravaged by injuries, the 37-year-old Stramaccioni could only lead the nerazzurri to ninth in the table, in his first full season as a professional coach. He was dealing with an unquestionably difficult situation -- for a few games Inter didn’t have a single first-team striker available -- though it’s unsurprising that three wins from their last 14 games wasn’t good enough for Massimo Moratti to keep him on.

Mazzarri will inherit an Inter team in need of some serious transfer refurbishment, and any signings which will be made must surely be done with the new coach's tactics in mind. With Mazzarri famous for his doggedness to stick by his three-man defence, Inter need to make sure the personnel fits the formation. Otherwise, it'll be like Gian Piero Gasperini all over again.
