Eintracht Frankfurt made sure that the race for the final Champions League spot would continue at least another week with a 3-1 victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Fortuna Düsseldorf: Final score 3-1, Frankfurt stay in the race for Champions League
Eintracht Frankfurt kept within striking distance of Schalke for the final Champions League spot with a 3-1 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Alexander Meier spent the majority of the first half peppering Fabian Giefer in the Düsseldorf goal, but it wasn’t until the 31st minute that he finally struck. Giefer made a save on a shot by Srdjan Lakic, but the rebound fell to Meier who easily tapped it in the goal.
It was Lakic who scored the next goal for Frankfurt. He headed in a cross from Takashi Inui just minutes into the second half. Lakic nearly grabbed a second a few minutes later, but Giefer got his fingertips on the attempted lob.
Dani Schahin pulled one back for Düsseldorf in the 78th minute, and it looked for a bit that they’d be able to get completely back into the game. However, Alexander Meier wasn’t going to have any of that. He scored a spectacular goal with a curling effort to the top corner. The goal was Meier’s 15th of the season.
Frankfurt remain in fifth place and pull within three points of Schalke for the fourth and final Champions League spot awarded to the Bundesliga. A point in their final two games will at least clinch a spot in next season’s Europa League. Düsseldorf are in 16th place, but they could find themselves in the relegation playoff spot if Augsburg manage a point against Freiburg on Sunday.
