Seattle Reign FC vs FC Kansas City: Final Score 0-1, Erika Tymrak serves Seattle their eighth loss of the season

The Seattle Reign continue to struggle in NWSL. They lost for the eighth time in 2013 on Sunday, falling at home to FC Kansas City, 1-0.

Sunday night featured a different forward lineup for FCKC as they were left without their star striker Renae Cuellar. Her influence from the field affected the visiting teams ability to earn an early lead until the 62nd minute when Hope Solo was unable to handle Erika Tymrak’s strike.

Despite Cuellar’s absence, Kristie Mewis, Leigh Ann Robinson and Lauren Cheney picked up her duties and drove the Kansas City attack. Mewis acted as the go-to player in the first half, receiving and setting up crosses. On few occasions she attempted to find the back of the net but couldn’t beat Solo.

Seattle looked like the more dangerous side early in the second half. Christine Nairn took a crack on goal in the 53rd minute as she charged the midfield and took a powerful strike 25 yards out but it was an easy save for Nicole Barnhart.

Three minutes later, Nairn played the ball into a crowded six-yard box. Jessica Fishlock got a touch on the ball but hit the post. It remained in play for Keelin Winters, but her shot was cleared off the line by FCKC. Shortly after that, Seattle conceded the winner.

KC’s persistance going forward paid off in the 62nd minute when Solo gave up her clean sheet. After picking the ball up from Cheney, who produced some fancy footwork to beat the Seattle defense, Tymrak struck the ball from an awkward angle off the side of the six-yard box directly at Solo. Fortunately for the visitors, Solo didn’t push the ball away effectively, and it deflected off the post before bouncing in.
