Barcelona’s Lionel Messi investigated for tax fraud
Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and his father are being investigated for tax fraud in Spain.

The Barcelona superstar and his dad Jorge are suspected of filing fraudulent tax returns for 2007-09, according to Spanish tax officials, defrauding the state out of more than £3.4m.
A complaint signed by Raquel Amado, the prosecutor, was filed at the courthouse on Wednesday, according to reports. The complain must first be accepted, however, before the subject can be charged. The courthouse is located in Gava, the same district of Barcelona in which Messi resides.
With Messi on wages believed to be around 16m euros per year, and Spain in the midst of a financial crisis, this doesn’t look good for Leo’s PR. We’ll have to wait to see if anything develops, but this scandal could do his image some serious damage. So far neither the player or his club have commented on the accusation or the case.
