Southampton, Lyon agree Dejan Lovren move

Jamie McDonald

Croatian defender Dejan Lovren is on his way from Ligue 1 to England after Lyon and Southampton agreed a €10 million deal (plus €2 million more in possible additions) to send him to St. Mary's. The centre back, 23, was once regarded as one of the better prospects in European football -- he had established himself as a regular in Lyon's back line by the 2010/11 season -- but his stock has fallen significantly since and a change of scenery looks like it'll be best for all involved.

Both sides have confirmed the deal, with Southampton announcing the acquisition on their official site . While Lovren isn’t the slam dunk for an elite career he used to be regarded as, at €10 million he’s an interesting buy who could easily get back on the right course and give the Saints (who need the help) a major boost in the back line. And if it all goes wrong, they’ll be able to recoup some of their expenditure. Not a bad deal at all.

It was previously reported that Spieth, Thomas and Fowler all went in on Leeds United. That does not appear to be entirely the case.
