FC Kansas City vs Chicago Red Stars: Preview

Chicago’s campaign to complete a third consecutive win was dashed on Thursday by FCKC. The visitors completed their fifth shut out of the season and handed Chicago their fifth loss.

The second of two back to back meetings between Chicago and FC Kansas City will take place in Kansas on Sunday. Kansas City earned three points on Thursday against Chicago with a 2-0 win. A goal in each half by Casey Loyd and Courtney Jones propelled FCKC to victory for the second straight match.

FCKC played exceptionally well without their national team members. Erika Tymrak, Melissa Henderson, Courtney Jones and Casey Loyd dominated and created numerous scoring chances for their squad. Tymrak is gradually becoming a player the midfield FCKC can count on to locate pockets in the oppositions half and seed a pass for a supporting player.

For Chicago to rebound from Thursday’s loss they must do a better job of shutting down Tymrak. Inka Grings is trying to find her moment on the scoreboard but the team is not connecting well with her up front. Many golden opportunities where Grings was open were squandered by the Red Stars midfield in their last game. Chicago needs to take advantage of those moments because Grings is a talented striker and if she gets adequate service, she’ll probably start scoring.
