Schalke sign German U-21 Christian Clemens from FC Köln.

Schalke have continued building their squad for next season and the future with the signing of Christian Clemens from FC Köln. The deal means that Clemens will be in Gelsenkirchen for four years and is estimated to cost Schalke €3 million.

Clemens, 21, has been involved with Köln since he was only ten years old. He’s been playing with the first team for the last three season; two of those being in the top flight. He scored seven goals in the Bundesliga and six goals in the 2.Bundesliga.

Schalke Sporting Director Horst Heldt:

“Christian Clemens is a Germany Under-21 player with enormous potential. We’re delighted to have secured the long-term services of another German talent. He’s a quick, versatile attacking player with a powerful shot who can play on either flank or in the middle. He’s also very ambitious and has a special mentality.”

Clemens:

“I had 12 great years at Cologne but now I’m delighted to be wearing the royal blue shirt. Schalke are one of the top clubs in Germany and Champions League hopefuls. You don’t get an opportunity like this very often.”

With the Clemens signing now secure, Schalke can move forward and focus their efforts on finally signing Leon Goretzka from VfL Bochum.
