Oka Nikolov and Eintracht Frankfurt agree to part ways; Veteran goalkeeper plans a move to America

Eintracht Frankfurt and Oka Nikolov have agreed to part ways, allowing the veteran goalkeeper an opportunity to head to the USA.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Oka Nikolov have agreed to part ways following the 2012-2013 season after 22 seasons with Frankfurt. The veteran goalkeeper expressed a desire to head to the United States as the reason for his release.

Nikolov, 39, has been with Eintracht Frankfurt since joining their youth sides all the way back in 1991. After 414 appearances for Die Adler, including 229 in the Bundesliga, Nikolov has decided that it was time for him to finally make a move.

“Eintracht are my one and only. I had an absolutely incredible time with this fantastic team and I would like to thank both the club and the fans. However, throughout my career an opportunity to move to America and expand my horizons was always a dream of mine and one which I hope to fulfill now.”

Kevin Trapp supplanted Nikolov as the starting goalkeeper in Frankfurt at the start of the 2012-2013 season. The former Kaiserslautern man had a stellar season before being injured with the Germany U-21 side. Where in the USA will Nikolov be headed? Steven Goff throws this out there.

I’m going with the Philadelphia Union.
