It took nearly 65 minutes to get something interesting to happen between the United States and Honduras. When it finally arrived it was a glorious mash-up of quality play, a goul mouth scramble, a possible handball and a Honduras player nearly clearing out his own goalkeeper.
USA vs. Honduras: The most interesting moment of the night
Graham Zusi started the mess with a great run and a shot that pinged off the outside of the post and in front of the goal. After a couple clearance attempts by Honduras and shot attempts by the USA, the ball clearly hit off the extend arm of Wilson Palacios before finally being covered by goalkeeper Noel Valladares.
There was zero intent on the handball and while it’s going to cause a furious and totally ridiculous storm on social media, I’m fine with the call. There was nothing Palacios could do and given the sheer volume of people in the area, it was a tough one of the referee to spot. A penalty would have been fair but so is the no call for me.
In reality, the incident encapsulated how stupid this match has been...so we’ve got that going for us.
