Leonardo Bittencourt leaves Borussia Dortmund for Hannover 96; BVB retain buy-back clause

Hannover 96 have completed the purchase of Leonardo Bittencourt from Borussia Dortmund. However, BVB made sure to include a buy-back clause in the deal.

Hannover 96 have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Leonardo Bittencourt. The deal is for four years and is for an estimated €3 million, which is what BVB paid Energie Cottbus for him last summer.

Bittencourt, 19, made a much ballyhooed move to the defending champions last summer but struggled to find a lot of playing time on a great BVB side. He made five appearances for Die Borussen in 2012-13 and managed a goal and an assist. Included in that is an appearance in the Champions League.

Coach Mirko Slomka is excited for his new player:

“I’m really pleased about this deal with Dortmund. Leonardo decided very early on that he wanted to come to 96 and wants to show his worth in the Bundesliga. We’ve got ourselves a fast player that can dribble with the ball.”

For their part, securing the buy-back clause in Bittencourt’s deal is a huge coup for BVB. Bittencourt will be 23 at the end of his Hannover contract, if he’s there for all four seasons. BVB will keep a close eye on his progress over the next few years.
