This performance from Uruguay has been immeasurably better than their horrible showing against Spain. Yes, Nigeria is a different caliber of opponent, but they're looking a heck of a lot more lively. They've dominated the opening 20 minutes of the game and scored the opener through center back Diego Lugano, who took advantage of a return ball back into the box following a set piece.
Uruguay vs. Nigeria: Diego Lugano scores opener
Hilariously, this goal came on two misses. Edinson Cavani completely whiffed on his backheel attempt -- which inadvertently became a dummy -- and Lugano seriously mishit his shot. Thankfully for his team, there was no one on the post to clear his shin-nudge off the line. Uruguay lead 1-0 and look like adding more, though Nigeria have been dangerous on the counter.
