In Italy's first Confederations Cup game, Andrea Pirlo marked his 100th appearance for his country by scoring a fantastic free kick goal. Apparently this competition has a bit of 100th cap magic. Diego Forlan, making his 100th appearance for Uruguay on Thursday, netted a brilliant goal in the second half of his team's game against Nigeria to put them up 2-1.
Diego Forlan scores on his 100th cap, puts Uruguay ahead 2-1
This goal also makes him his country's all-time leading goal-scorer ... again. He held the record by himself for quite a while, but Luis Suarez tied him with his goal against Spain. The two might remain in a competition to be the country's all-time goals leader for a bit, though it seems likely Suarez will pull away eventually.
Also notable is the assist by Edinson Cavani, who has done literally everything but score so far for his team. He's missed some chances and been caught offside a few times, but he's been incredibly active and dangerous. He's been unlucky not to score, which is actually his Uruguay career in a nutshell.
