If you have £20,000, you could play for Macclesfield Town

As Macclesfield Town fights against financial collapse the club has come up with a rather interesting way of raising some much needed funds.

For the low, low price of £20,000 you can live out a dream and purchase a first team spot with Macclesfield Town. If you have the money and pass the as yet undisclosed selection process, you could feature for ten minutes in a Conference Premier or cup fixutre for the financially strapped Silkmen.

Macclesfield Town is in a major financial pinch needing £100,000 by the end of August to keep the team operating. This idea, gimmick, whatever you’d like to call it is one way the team is attempting to raise the needed funds. It seems like a pretty good idea as well considering how many 18 to 35-year old fit males -- those are the requirements set by the club -- would probably love to play professional soccer...even for 10 minutes in a lower division.

In addition to the match time, the individual will receive their very own squad number and a full set of match and training kits.

The team’s associate director Andy Scott told BBC Radio Manchester that this was another step in trying to save the club after they flirtied with a winding up order.

"We haven't got Manchester United's bank balance. We've got Macclesfield Town's bank balance, which is pretty desperate to say the least at the moment, if the club was in a strong financial position, perhaps we wouldn't even consider it.

"I think it's a wonderful opportunity for somebody to step forward and go down in the history of English football.
"If it's 1-1 with 10 minutes to go in a big cup game, we wouldn't even risk it. If we're 3-0 up with 10 minutes to go and [manager] John [Askey] feels as though he can put this guy on, he'll give it a go. It will be a wonderful experience for somebody."

Askey spoke about the gimmick as well saying they do not want it to “become farcical” and stressed it would not hurt the team. The plan is for the individual to be put into a situation that would not hurt the team during a match.

The Football Conference stated they’ve received no official information from the team about their plan and refused to comment at this point.

So if you’ve go the money and every wanted to live your dream, at least for ten minutes, here’s your chance.
