Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois to join Atletico Madrid on loan for a third time

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has announced that he will return to Atletico Madrid on loan for another season.

Chelsea's young Belgian goalkeeper Thiabaut Courtois has confirmed that he will return to Atletico Madrid on loan for another season.

Courtois, who is first choice goalkeeper for Belgium, has been on loan at Atleti for the past two seasons since he moved to the Blues from Racing Genk, as Chelsea have continued with Petr Cech in goal.

Speculation has long mounted on when the young Belgian will replace Cech as Chelsea number one, although there were some suggestions that the keeper had been offered to Napoli as a makeweight in a deal for Edinson Cavani as his future at the club was called into question.

Now, however, it seems that Courtois will remain at Chelsea and return to Atleti for a third season, where has has so far excelled as the Madrid outfit’s first-choice goalkeeper. With Petr Cech only 31, it will be some time before age starts to catch up with him, but the Blues will now defer their decision for another year.
