Following their relegation to the Segunda at the end of the 2011-12 La Liga season, Villarreal CF have bounced right back up to the top flight. They defeated third-placed Almeria 1-0 on Saturday, the final day of the season, securing second place in the league.
Villarreal win promotion to La Liga
The Yellow Submarine only had to spend one year in the Segunda. They won on Saturday to win promotion back to La Liga.

Almeria remain in third place, three points behind Villarreal, and will join Girona, Alcorcon and Las Palmas in the promotion playoffs. Eiche secured promotion weeks ago as winners of the Segunda and will join Villarreal in La Liga.
At the beginning of the 2011-12 La Liga season, Villarreal decided to sell arguably their biggest star, Spanish national team regular Santi Cazorla, to Malaga. That sale, along with a rash of injuries, led to Villarreal's descent down the table from fourth to 18th place in just one season. They were relegated on the final day of the year, following a loss to Atletico Madrid.
This past season was Villarreal’s first season in the second division since the 1999-2000 campaign.
