Moritz Leitner to join VfB Stuttgart on loan from Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund’s Moritz Leitner is likely to join VfB Stuttgart on loan.

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly planning on sending Moritz Leitner out on loan to VfB Stuttgart for two seasons. The deal will hinge on Leitner agreeing to a two year contract extension through 2017 with BVB. In other words, if Leitner doesn’t agree to the two year contract extension, the loan will not happen.

The 20 year old struggled for playing time at BVB this season under manager Jürgen Klopp. While he made 25 appearances this season, he was mostly used as a reserve and saw less than a half of playing time an appearance. The hope is that securing a loan to another club will see him receive more playing time to continue growing as a player.

Stuttgart will enter into the third qualifying round of next year’s Europa League giving Leitner and even great opportunity to score additional playing time. The midfielder was also shockingly left off the Germany squad for the U-21 Championship taking place in Israel right now.

Let’s hope that Leitner’s continued development will continue with the loan to Stuttgart.
