A UEFA appeals panel has upheld European bans of Turkish clubs Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe, after appeals against their match-fixing suspensions were dismissed. Fenerbahçe’s ban comes after club officials allegedly helped fix matches during their 2010-11 league title run, while Beşiktaş allegedly attempted to fix the 2011 Turkish Super Cup final.

Turkish giants Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe have had their bans from European competition upheld after appeals against match-fixing suspensions were dismissed.

A statement on UEFA’s website revealed Beşiktaş had their appeal rejected outright, meaning they’ll be unable to participate in this season’s edition of the Europa League. Fenerbahçe had their appeal partially admitted, though will still be banned from the next two UEFA club competitions they qualify for, including this season’s Champions League.
Fener and Beşiktaş finished second and third respectively in the league last season, with the former reaching the semi-final of the Europa League. Both clubs have a final avenue of appeal via the Court of Arbitration for Sport, though, for the moment, neither side will be challenging for European trophies this season.
