Former Newell's Old Boys coach Gerardo Martino is the man chosen to replace Tito Vilanova as Barcelona coach, according to multiple reports in Spain. Martino left the Argentine club at the end of last season, and is said to have been in talks with Barça sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta in Buenos Aires.

Argentine coach Geraldo Martino is reportedly set to take over at Barcelona after the resignation of Tito Vilanova.

Newell’s became known for the attractive style they played under Martino, who led them to the Torneo Final crown and the semi-final of the Copa Libertadores. Howevever, his appointment at Barça would still be a huge surprise. Not only would it end their trend of promoting from within, but would see Martino take charge of his first ever team outside South America.
Aside from experience at a string of club teams in Argentina and Paraguay since 1998, Martino had a lengthy spell in charge of the Paraguayan national team between 2006 and 2011. He's not a coach short on experience, but his low profile in Europe and lack of affiliation with Barcelona -- aside from an endorsement from compatriot Lionel Messi -- would make Martino an intriguing choice.
