Liverpool’s Jonjo Shelvey sold to Swansea City

Mr. Shelvey will be taking his unique talents and daunting visage to Wales after three quiet seasons in Merseyside.

Swansea City have completed the acquisition of Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, according to Liverpool's official site. The 21-year-old struggled to find a consistent place in the Reds side over the past season, despite impressing in spurts, and apparently Brendan Rodgers has decided that he can do better. Which is correct -- and the £6 million that Liverpool might be getting from the Swans will help there as well.

As for Swansea, by adding Shelvey to Leon Britton in midfield they've now cornered the market in 'footballers stuck permanently making ogre faces', which might actually be worth a point or two under Premier League rules (don't hold me to that, though). They've also added a decent player with a fair bit of promise who'll almost certainly get a lot more playing time at the Liberty Stadium than he was getting at Anfield. It's not out of the question that Shelvey takes a big step forward now that he's found a regular home -- if Liverpool haven't figured out a way to put a sell-on clause in the deal, they might come to regret it.
