Borussia Dortmund, Shakhtar Donetsk reach agreement on Henrikh Mkhitaryan transfer

Borussia Dortmund and Shakhtar Donetsk have reached an agreement for the transfer of Henrikh Mkhitaryan to BVB.

Borussia Dortmund and Shakhtar Donetsk have reached an agreement for the transfer of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to BVB. Details of the deal have not been released, but the contract will last through the summer of 2017.

Mkhitaryan becomes the third big transfer into Dortmund this summer, joining Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sokratis Papastathopoulos. CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed that the club had €50 million to spend this summer on incoming transfers after the departure of Mario Götze to Bayern Munich. The Mkhitaryan (€25m), Aubameyang (€13m), and Papastathopoulos (€9) transfers have not surpassed that amount, so the Westphalian club has announced they've concluded their transfer activities this summer.

The Armenian international gives manager Jürgen Klopp even more flexibility with his attack. I suspect we’ll see even more interchanging among Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang, Robert Lewandowski, Marco Reus, and Jakub Blaszczykowski along the front line. While losing a talent the level of Götze is near impossible to replace, BVB have made good moves to somewhat absorb the loss.

While they should still be fun to watch this upcoming season, it will be just as fun to watch announcers call their matches with all of the difficult-to-pronounce names. Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang, Papastathopoulos, and Blaszczykowski are not the easiest things to say for the announcer that’s not calling their matches every week.
