After just seven months in Gelsenkirchen, Michel Bastos is no longer a Schalke player. His loan agreement from Olympique Lyon has been terminated with immediate effect, and the Brazilian is reportedly on his way to Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates.
Michel Bastos will leave Schalke (on loan from Olympique Lyon) for the United Arab Emirates
After not matching a transfer offer from the UAE, Schalke have seen their loan agreement for Michel Bastos terminated.

Bastos, 29, joined Schalke from Lyon last January on an 18 month loan. That agreement stated that Schalke would be given five days to match any transfer offer for Bastos that Lyon received, and if they did not match the offer, the loan agreement with Lyon would be terminated. Thus, it was announced today that the loan has been canceled.
Sporting director Horst Heldt stated:
“We would have had to buy the player and we didn’t want to do that. In making this decision we have also complied with Bastos’s wish.”
The winger played 16 games for Schalke in the second half of the season including two matches in the Champions League. He scored four goals and contributed with two assists.
